Barn Door Build
Made from 3/4" thick x 6" wide tongue-and-groove planks on the backside. The cross-planks on the front side of the door make up the design of the door and provide structural support. They are either 1" x 4" or 1 x 8" depending on the door design. Total door thickness is 1-3/4" at the cross-rails. All doors come fully assembled.
Iron Plank Barn Doors
Instead of using rails and stiles to reinforce the door, these doors have a black powder-coated metal frame that keeps the tongue-and-groove panks in place. This gives them a vintage, industrial look. They come in two styles:
Vertical Iron Plank - the 6" wide planks run vertically up the length of door. It is available in 6" width increments starting at 24" to a maximum of 48" wide. It is available in 2" height increments from 80" to 96".
Horizontal Iron Plank - the 6" wide planks run horizontally in the metal frame, so it is available in 2" width increments, from 24" to 48" wide. It is available in 6" height increments from 84" to 96".
Iron Plank Door Thickness
The doors are 3/4" thick at the tongue-and-groove planks and 1-1/8" thick at the metal edge.
Wood Species
All Rustic Doors are made from Western Red Knotty Alder, which has a warm color and a smooth, even grain. Although it is a hardwood, it is softer than traditional hardwoods. It often has knots, which give it a rustic charm.
Wood Finish Types
The doors come in two types of wood finishes that have their own distinct texture and decor style:
Barnwood Knotty Alder - a weathered, rustic-looking finish with occasional mill marks and a textured wood surface for an authentic barn door look. Finish is unevenly applied by hand to give it a unique, irregular appearance.
Rustic Knotty Alder - features the same rustic, natural wood features as the Barnwood Knotty Alder, but without the rough-hewn wood surface. If you are looking for a smoother look with a more even finish, this is the preferred option.
Additional finish options beyond those on the product page are available upon request. Reach out to us by phone or email to see the full range of available finish colors. Both wood types are also available as Unfinished, which can be painted or stained on-site to match the existing room decor.
