This is dependent on the amount of clearance you have on at least one side of your doorway. If you have enough clearance on one side, then the formula to calculate track length is [doorway width + width of 1 door]. So if your doorway is 60" wide and you are using two 36" wide doors, then you would want to order an 8' track [60" + 36" = 96"]. If you don’t have any/much clearance on either side of your doorway, then just order the kit with the longest track you will be able to fit for your installation (width of doorway + right side clearance + left side clearance). This allows you to maximize your access to the doorway by pushing the doors as far as they will go to one side of the doorway, when accessing the other side of the doorway. If you only want to extend the track to one side of your doorway, then just include the clearance measurement of that side. You can also use the "Track Lenth Calculator" found above the "Quantity" selector on the product page.
Bypass Barn Door Hardware - Frequently Asked Questions
Hardware Specifications
What length of a track should I order?
What is the difference between the Classic Strap and Low Profile hardware kits? The hanger design looks the same.
Please read this blog article: The Difference Between Classic Strap & Low Profile Hangers
How much extra track length do I need in order to accommodate the door stops? For example: if I need a 6’ track, should I order the 6’ 7” hardware kit so that my doors will go right to the 6’ mark?
You do not have to accommodate for the door stops. The door stops are typically installed several inches in from the end of the track, but the door hangers are also installed several inches in from each side of the door. So when your door is in the open position, the edge of the door will be flush with the edge of the track. Order the length of track you will require for your installation. If you need a 6’ track, then order a 6’ track.
What kind of floor guide should I get with my hardware kit? (hint: it's included)
The hardware kit already includes 2 floor guide for a standard 2 door bypass kit. It is a dual clip style of guide so it can either work as a fin style guide and fit into a mortised line in the bottom of the door or they can be placed on either side of the door in a "cradle" setup. Depending on the range of motion of each of your doors, you may need to order additional guides to ensure that your door is always "in" a guide when rolling along the track. Our guides can be found on the Floor Guides Collection Page and are purchased separately.
How far apart are the pre-drilled spacer holes on the track?
All of the predrilled holes are at 16" on center. See the spec sheet in the "Resources" section on the product page for the spacer hole distances. If the location of the spacer holes on the track doesn’t match the distance between the studs in your wall, then it is recommended that you first mount a header board to your studs and then mount the hardware kit to your header board. Mounting a header board is always recommended as it adds greater stability to your barn door installation. For bypass kits 1 x 8 board is sufficient for a header board.
What is the distance from the wall to the outside face of the door?
The distance from the wall to the outside face of the door is 6”.
Are the hardware kits available in custom sizes?
No, they are only available on the sizes listed on the website. If you require an irregular length, we recommend that you order the next size up and then cut down the track to the length you need. It doesn’t compromise the integrity of the track. If you need a track length longer than 20', then please reach out to us and we will give you a custom quote.
Installation
What can I do if the pre-drilled spacer holes on the track don’t match the studs in my wall?
Often the studs in your wall won’t be aligned with your doorway in such a way that your studs line up with the hardware kit track. In this case, you will want to mount a header board to the studs above the doorway and then mount the hardware to the header board. This will increase the stability of your barn door hardware installation and allow you to mount your hardware kit anywhere along the header board. For a bypass kit, a 1 x 8 board is sufficient as a header board.
Can I cut the track (rail)?
Yes, you can cut the track down to the size you need without having it compromise the integrity of the track. You can use any saw that is designed to cut steel, including a hacksaw or reciprocating saw. Then soften the edges with a circular grinder or metal file. Finish the edges with coarse-grit sandpaper. Most black spray paint can be to touch up the cut end as it won't be noticeable. For a more exact match, bring the cut-off end of the track to a paint store and have them to a color match.
Does the hardware kit contain all of the parts I will require to mount my barn doors?
Yes, the only things you will need to provide are the doors and any handles for the doors. All of the other components required to hang your doors are included in the hardware kit (including the floor guides).
I lost my copy of the installation instructions. Can I download another copy from your website?
Yes, you can find a PDF of the hardware kit installation instructions under the "Resources" section on the product page.

General
What is the difference between each of the different models of hardware kits?
The difference between the different types of single or double door (single track) hardware kits is the design of the hanger. All models function the same way and have the same weight capcity. Some have different overhead clearance requirements, which may need to be taken into consideration. That information can be found in the "Specifications" section of the product page.
